Role Description

As a Development Engineer you will support our clients with the development of site strategies and/or the development of projects from concept through to financial sanction before handing over to project delivery teams. Projects are varied in size and scale with some at the forefront of the UK's drive to decarbonise the power industry. You will lead a multi-disciplined investment team in the project setup, option selection and development phases of the projects undertaking optioneering and engineering works to ensure optimal cost, fit for purpose and safe delivery solutions are planned and prepared ready for delivery in accordance with the client, stakeholder and/or regulatory commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Appoint and lead the project team, actively managing key stakeholders to ensure their timely input and agreement to the selection and development of investments and ensure that approvals are sought to meet the required timescales
  • Proficient technical knowledge of the GB power system and associated primary assets (Overhead Lines, Substations and underground Cables - initial and immediate focus on Substations).
  • Develop the least cost, optimal, efficient and safe solution in line with CDM Regulations and SHESQ considerations and document all residual design issues, CDM issues, hazards and risks.
  • Provide project support, technical feasibility considerations, direction of Front End Engineering Design (FEED) inputs from any appointed design house consultants and facilitate meetings, design/hazard/risk reviews and other ad-hoc meetings and workshops with a variety of internal and external team members.
  • Support the planning or development consent application process, where required, on technical aspects and programming working alongside environmental consultants
  • Liaise with other 3rd party stakeholders i.e. other utilities and local authorities
  • Formulate site strategies utilising a combination of asset health, customer connection and future demand requirements, promoting robust solutions for the future system needs.
  • Prepare scope fo works documents and support tender assessments.
  • Enact the role of Client's Delegated Representative and where appropriate, Principal Designer.

Experience

Interpersonal, Supervisory or Management Experience

Technical & Specialist Experience
  • Project management skills including management of time, cost, safety and risk.
  • Proficient technical knowledge of the GB power system and associated primary assets (Overhead Lines, Substations and Underground Cables)
  • Knowledge and application of CDM
  • Knowledge of Safety and Environmental legislation, practices and policies.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent in engineering discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Experience in managing internal / external stakeholder relationships.
  • CDM, Health & Safety and Environmental legislation proficiency.
  • Must already have the Right to Work in the UK or be able to secure this prior to commencement of the role.
Desirable
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent desirable.
  • Membership of IET / IAM leading to Chartered Status.

Location

Hybrid working but must be willing to travel anywhere throughout the UK.

We have office locations at both Northallerton and Stafford but base locations are flexible.

Work Hours

Ideally full time but may consider part time positions.
