Closing Date: 28 February 2025
Role Description
As a Trainee Engineer at Omnia Projects, you will become an integral part of the power industry's transition to a low carbon future. Our traineeship provides an unparalelled opportunity to work on some of the UK's most exciting large scale, multi-disciplined, transmission, distribution and power generation projects.
One of our experienced engineers will be assigned as your mentor. Their expertise will help guide you through a development programme consisting of active project involvement and classroom-based training. The programme will be tailored to you, focussing on your strengths and interests whilst aligning with the requirements of our business.
As part of the Omnia Academy you will also be enrolled onto an HNC course. To gain this qualification, you will study at a local college for one day per week.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with or without previous industry experience who would like to pursue a career in the electricity transmission & distribution sector and learn from some of the industry's best and most experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
Your initial responsibilities are stated below. Though this list is not exhaustive, please note that, as your skillset develops, your responsibilities will expand to take on a more central role in supporting our business, our team, and our clients:
- Document Control - Producing and issuing drawing transmittals, contract drawing lists (CDL), and site drawing indexes in addition to printing drawing packs for issue to site. This will help to develop your understanding of the drawing management process.
- Scanning of Records - Visiting substations with one of our experienced engineers to scan existing drawing records at the start of a project and capturing site mark-ups during the as-built stage of the project.
- Drawing Modifications - You will learn to use AutoCAD and start by making minor modifications to drawings based on mark-ups provided by experienced engineers. As your experience and capability develops, we can look to expand this to include more complex design work.
- Site Engineering - For live projects, you will spend some time at site where you can feedback progress and any issues to our design team. This will give you exposure to the construction phase of a project so you can become familiar with typical substation construction methods and equipment.
- Schedule Planning - You will assist our Planning Engineers with making modifications using Primavera P6 to existing programmes based on feedback from our team. This will also develop your commercial awareness such as the NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract.
- Training - You will be required to complete a number of training courses to supplement the hands-on project experience that you will gain. During the first 2 years, typical training courses may include (dependant upon your tailored training programme):
- National Grid Person - to allow you to gain access to National Grid substations
- IOSH Accredited Health & Safety Training
- NEC3/4 Awareness Training
- AutoCAD training
- Primavera P6 Introductory Course
- Technical Training Modules
- Further education courses
- HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or similar engineering subject)
