Allington Data Centre

In December 2015, the Client appointed Omnia Projects to undertake Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for a new 11kV private wire supply from Allington Energy from Waste (EfW) power plant to a new data centre (Maidstone Data Centre).

The project was split into 4 stages:

  • Stage 1 - Enabling works which involved the extension of the existing Allington EfW power plant 11kV switchboard
  • Stage 2 – Provision of an 11kV private wire connection comprising of two 11kV / 3 phase cable feeder circuits
  • Stage 3 – Provision of a new 33kV DNO supply, a new 33kV/11kV substation and two 11kV / 3phase feeder circuits (additional to Stage 2) to Maidstone data centre
  • Stage 4 – Provision of an 11kV interconnector circuit between the 33/11kV substation (Stage 3) and the Allington EfW power plant 11kV switchboard

Stage 1 and 2 were required to provide the data centre with two 11kV feeds each having a power rating of 25mW the load rating of the DC being 21MW. Stage 3 and 4 were to provide additional resilience to the DC supply.

As part of the FEED, Omnia Projects produced:

  • Site survey reports
  • Cable option reports
  • Cost estimate
  • Basis for design document
  • Stage by Stage drawings

In addition, we also provided technical support to the Clients team on any technical issues that they had regarding the system connection process.
