International Women in Engineering Day celebrated its 8th year in 2021. Brought to you by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), INWED is an international awareness campaign which raises the profile of women in engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to women and girls in this exciting industry. The celebration takes place on the 23rd June each year.
Even though many of us were not able to be in the same room as our peers, friends and colleagues this year, many took part in virtual activities to celebrate and appreciate the contribution women engineers make. Founded by the Women's Engineering Society in 2016, the WE50 awards are a UK event linked to International Women in Engineering Day (INWED). The 2021 Top 50 Women in Engineering celebrates the Engineering Heroes: the best, brightest and bravest women in engineering, who recognise a problem, then dare to be part of the solution; who undertake everyday ‘heroics’ as much as emergency ones.
