Project Description

Supplementing the Client’s capability, the successful individual will support and work with the inhouse project delivery to provide works across several asset classes to include substations, underground cables, overhead lines and civils. This will cover at all system voltages from low voltage (LV) up to and including 132kV.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Site Supervisor, you will assist with the design, planning and delivery of the Major Project works from development through to onsite delivery and completion, ensuring compliance with Client standards, systems and licence obligations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Part of a project team, providing support with project time, cost, quality and safety accountabilities in supporting the development and delivery of project works.
  • Be an integral part of the project team who will contribute to resolving project issues when required e.g. hazard identification and risk assessment, contract management and community engagement.
  • Assist with overseeing, managing, and coordinating the development, on-site delivery of projects during construction and post construction activities.
  • Maintain effective project team communication on progress and plan updates during project delivery.
  • To provide construction management and Health and Safety expertise to support the delivery of construction works.
  • On a case-by-case basis, undertake Contractor responsibilities under the CDM Regulations. Where required, act as the Company Principal Contract Representative under CDM Regulations where the Company is nominated Principal Contractor.
  • Ensuring a consistent high standard of work is delivered by Company appointed contractors.
  • Monitor contractor Health and Safety and Environmental performance whilst undertaking audits of contractor working methods, safety, environmental and quality management systems.
  • Carry out formal documented inspections of contractor work and provide corrective instruction if necessary. Typically, expectation will be 1 x safety and 1 x quality inspection per month.
  • Work with the Company’s appointed contractors making sure all work is delivered in accordance with the project programme - in a safe, environmentally responsible manner.
  • Guiding the Company’s contractors when required and raising any issues to the Company Project Delivery Engineer / project team as necessary.

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Minimum ONC in Electrical Engineering;
  • Hold a relevant IOSH or NEBOSH qualification;
  • Have a civil, mechanical or electrical National Craft Certificate and the CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS);
  • Experience of site managing construction sites for works on the UK electrical distribution system on systems up to and including 132kV including overhead, underground, protection, substations and plant and civil matters, typically 5+ years’ experience practicing as a Site Supervisor;
  • Be able to demonstrate competence in electricity distribution and transmission construction and commissioning techniques along with knowledge of the associated plant and equipment;
  • Have the ability to deliver high quality work in a demanding environment whilst ensuring 100% adherence to Company standards, policies and procedures;
  • Adaptable, self-motivated and flexible;
  • IT skills in respect of MS office and have an aptitude to learn the Company specific suite of IT software;
  • Have a proven history of previously been authorised for a UK DNO for HV and EHV substation access and the receipt of safety documents;
  • Capable of obtaining Company authorisation to receive and clear safety documents;
  • Provide a high level of professionalism often in tight timescales and be able to work under pressure.
  • Either possess or be capable to successfully obtain, and maintain, the Company Operational Authorisation requirement, at minimum:
    • Authorisations to gain access to all operational substations unsupervised.
    • Authorisations to supervise others who need to gain access to all operational substations;

Additional Information

This role is predominately based on work sites – across several sites and projects – but may also involve office-based works as necessary.

Key office locations include:

• Newcastle, Sunderland, York, Castleford, Hull, Sheffield, Northallerton

These are long-term roles. Engagement can be on a PAYE, Limited Company (Inside IR35) or contingent worker basis.
